Meeting the Elderly in Langreo
An Enriching Experience of Discovery
Mar 14, 2025
Last Friday, 14th March, our Spanish friends in Asturias organised a very special encounter with members of a retirement home in their region. The primary aim of this encounter was to promote intergenerational exchange, emphasising the first-hand collection by the young members of the choir of information on the mental health of the elderly residents of the home, as part of the data collection process we are currently undergoing in the project.
Under the guidance of some basic questions, the choral group (almost in its entirety), with 30 members taking part in the activity, took the opportunity to learn more about the elderly (a total of around 20 residents took part) in what ended up being a very enriching experience.
The experience ended up on a very high note as the young members of the choir sang some traditional Asturian songs, to the beat of the guitar, shortly followed by the voices of the wonderful residents they met who sang along with them to their hearts' content.
An excellent initiative carried out as part of the project - one that surely shall never be forgotten!
Stay tuned for more as we update you on how our Maltese friends forming part of VOCA Choir shall continue collecting data this weekend.
